How to Let Go – For Good

When preparing what to write for my co-authored book, “Pursuing Your Destiny” there were a few occurrences in my life that I was more than hesitant to share. I attached myself to the toxic memories of my past and inevitably allowed it into my present moment. I realized that if I was ever going to live a fully conscious and fulfilled life, I needed to let go – for good.

In reading the 19 Life Lessons from the Dalai Lama, one lesson suddenly resonated as truth:

Follow the Three R’s:

  • Respect for Self
  • Respect for Others
  • Responsibility for all your actions

“Respect for Self“? Hmm…through strict parental conditioning I’ve always been eager to respect – even the neediness to please others in all I do. Taking responsibility for all of  my actions has been a ongoing practice for many years, but respecting my “self?” Who is “the self?”

The human being I was in my past is not the same as it is today, for the world is forever changing, moment by moment. When we identify ourselves with the past, it becomes part of our consciousness. Letting go doesn’t just mean letting go of the past, but letting go of an unknown future; and embracing NOW.

Through years of self-discovery through meditation I’ve found that in order to wholeheartedly let go of anything which does not serve you, one has to be truthful and respectful of the present moment; for it really is all we have  – or ever will have.
