Healing Yourself and Mother Earth

On January 1,1996 I decided to stop eating red meat and poultry. The somewhat hasty decision was more of a New Year’s resolution than an actual lifestyle change. Due to a knee injury six months earlier I stopped my daily running and packed on a few unwanted pounds, and in reading an article on vegetarianism I decided to give it a try. It lasted for six months.

In the years since my short stint going meatless I didn’t give it much thought until 2005 when a friend asked if I had ever seen the movie, “Meet Your Meat.”

I hadn’t watched it, but the title of the movie made me sick to my stomach. (NOTE: This movie is not meant for everyone, and if you are an animal lover like me you will not want to see it either. View at your own discretion.)

In November of that year I gave up meat and fish for good, and in 2007 I evolved into a vegan lifestyle.

I immediately lost those unwanted pounds and felt more energy than I did years before. What I didn’t realize however, was how much of our natural resources were still being wasted, even since being a vegan.

Of course, one does not have to be a vegan or vegetarian to become more conscious of Mother Earth, but we can surely be conscious of ourselves and how we can respect the world we live in.
