Now that summer almost here, and has possibly already arrived in some countries, it’s time to take a hard look at how to protect oneself from the harmful affects of the sun.
Here is a another guest post from Theresa DeGregory, owner of Terra Andre’ Skin Care Products and Licensed Clinical Aestetician/Aromatherapist. She and I have spoken at great lengths about how we can improve the quality of our skin with natural products.. I am pleased to once again share her wisdom with you.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 2 million Americans are diagnosed every year. So, before you head out the door check out your sunscreen.
Remember not all sunscreens are created equal.
Spray sunscreens are super-convenient, but most of them contain toxic ingredients like Oxybenzone, which can mimic estrogen. That’s right…This dangerous chemical penetrates the skin, gets into the bloodstream and may act like estrogen in the body. It can also trigger allergic reactions.
Retinyl palmitate is a synthetic alternate for retinyl acetate in vitamin A supplements, and is available in oily or dry forms. It is found in some sunscreens and has been shown to speed development of skin tumors and lesions, and it may be implicated in cardiovascular disease.
Skip sunscreen/bug repellent combos. studies suggest that chemicals that filter ultraviolet rays can interact with insect repelling chemicals that decrease sunburn protection. And if you apply these products every 2 hours (as you should) you may be overexposed to the repellent chemicals.
Studies show that sunscreen with SPF 28 block about 97% of all UVB rays. Make sure labels list UVA and UVB (or broad spectrum Protection). Any percentage above this number has negligible benefits.
So the bigger question is, ”Why use a sunscreen to prevent skin cancer that has cancer causing chemicals in it?”
Terra Andre` works hard to bring you products completely chemical, dye, sulfate and phthalate free.
Our 100% natural sunscreen with SPF 28 UVB/UVA sweat proof has 28% Zinc, aloe vera and soothing oil like sesame seed oil, coconut oil, shea butter, carrot root oil (which is naturally 28 SPF) and Vitamin E.
You can’t go wrong with Natural!
