5 Compelling Reasons Why You Need to Be Yourself

be yourself quote

When I was 15 years old I made a hasty decision to drastically change my hair color. I was bored with my jet black hair and wanted a much lighter look for summer. I took a bottle of hydrogen peroxide from my Mother’s bathroom cabinet, clogged the drain and proceeded to pour the entire bottle onto my head, which was strategically positioned in the sink. I held it there for about five minutes, and what resulted was a color that matched the glow of the morning sun. Within 30 minutes it looked like my head caught fire.

My Mother obviously lost her mind, and when she asked why I tried to look like my blonde friends I replied, “I’m not. I’m only trying to be myself.

I realized at that young age how difficult it would be to live an authentic life, if it were led by crippling fear. After years of struggling to be myself I still had the urge to accommodate to the opinions of others. In times of deep meditation I was given these very crucial reasons why we all should be ourselves, with no exception.

There is no one else like you. When you arrived on this physical plane you brought with you the gift of uniqueness—one of many special gifts bestowed on you from the Divine. Whenever you have the strength to speak your utmost truth,  you are playing a necessary part in your ongoing transformation. If you attempt to change your thoughts for others, you are manipulated by ego and there is difficulty in finding true awareness.

You will feel contentment just being you. Eckhart Tolle said, “Authentic human interactions become impossible when you lose yourself in a role.” We become so identified with our roles as mother, father, brother sister, boss or employee that we forget who we really are. Leave everything behind. Learn to let go and feel that deep sense of resolution. This is the purest form of contentment with where you are, who you are, and with what is from moment to moment.

Joy exists in self-acceptance. By free will you cannot make another person accept you. People are free to think as they want, as you have the power to do as well. It is important to accept your strengths as well as weaknesses in order to never feel the need to justify yourself to others. It is within that place where pure joy is found.

You are living every day of your life. In a previous blogpost I discuss the importance of living in one’s own moment to feel truly alive. The real path of living is letting life flow through you and no one else, without letting fear intervene.

You will be closer to Source. Within each one of us is a place where the Divine is eager to express its creativity, love and closeness to others. By thinking and being your true self you will become One with mind, body and Soul, therefore communicating in a way that is nothing less than miraculous.

There is no need to worry if in some interactions you don’t feel as if you are being yourself. Believe with absolute certainty that you are here to BE, and you will have forever release the fear of being the beautiful and authentic YOU.

  • “Joy exists in self-acceptance” – I love that statement and it’s true.
We often do get caught up in our expected roles or roles that we think are our only identities. Great reminder and good way to reflect on our inner contentment! #ibabloggers

    • Thank you so much for sharing such wisdom and insight, dear Bernadyn.

  • It is so easy to get caught in the trap of trying to be someone else you perceive as more successful than you. But it will never work. You aren’t that person, you don’t have the same set of circumstances. Great post. #ibabloggers

    • That is SUCH a great point. None of us share the same circumstances, but we are all ONE. Thank you so much for taking the time to read the post and for sharing your wisdom. xo
