What Zach Sobiech Taught Me About Living

Zach Sobiech

Zach and his sister Grace

The other day while reading through the Facebook newsfeed I came across a shared YouTube link from a friend.. “My Last Days: Meet Zach Sobiech.” Immediately I was intrigued. Who is this person? “Last Days??” I almost didn’t want to know.

At the age of 14, Zach found out he had a rare form of terminal cancer – Osteosarcoma to be exact. In my research during my Mom’s battle with cancer last year I knew that this type of cancer was found primarily in children. I decided to take a deep breath, and watch the video…

Zach’s story has touched my heart so deeply that I couldn’t help but.. SMILE. Yes, smile. His presence in the documentary almost seemed Angelic, as if he was chosen to be a “guide of love” to his family and friends, and now to the world.

So beautifully said, “You don’t have to find out you’re dying, to start living.” Indeed. How many of us go through life, day by day,  not being mindful of what we’re doing or not embracing life’s gifts of experiences – until we’re faced with adversity?

Thank you, Zach. Your smile and presence will be missed. This is how your passion for living has touched the hearts and souls of so many…
