A Visit to the 9/11 Memorial – A Decade Later

After years of healing after the tragedy of September 11, I made the conscious decision to visit the 9/11 Memorial, where the Towers once stood.

My husband and I met with Alex, a curator for the Memorial and presented her with the original photo I had taken of the Towers just days before the attack, along with our book, “Pursuing Your Destiny”.  As promised, Alex gave us a pass to visit the site. We needed to act quickly; the rain clouds began rolling in and I wasn’t going to miss this opportunity.

Our guest passes enabled us to get us past the visitors standing in line, and by 1:15pm we were at the entrance of the memorial. Just then, the sky opened and it began to pour.

As I beheld the beautifully engraved names of friends who perished a decade ago, my heart began to beat uncontrollably. Tears of sorrow flowed down my cheeks as I ran my fingers across their names. “Eileen…Ivan…Robert…Ryan,” I sobbed. I stood there, in a place I had not been in ten years, but at a place of peace. It was finally time to move on.
